EvenStart Program

Regardless of education, economic standing, race or nationality, we as parents are united by the hope that our children will be better off than we are. Education is essential in making our hope reality and moving each generation forward.

The Even Start Family Literacy Program serves the whole family. Both center-based and limited home-based services are available. The four components of the program reinforce every aspect of family learning.

1. Adult Education
Adults set individual goals to improve their reading, writing, math or employment skills. Some work toward their GED, others prepare to move ahead in the workforce by learning computer skills, resume writing and job skills training.

2. Early Childhood EducationEven Start Program
A full day program provides a safe and secure environment where children explore reading, block play, writing, art, science and social interaction. There are also opportunities for self-selected activities and for parent participation.

3. Parent and Child Time
Regularly scheduled time (PACT) for parents and children to learn and play together. PACT time builds bonds within the family and enhances parents’ awareness of how their children learn.

4. Parent Time
An opportunity for parents to learn about their child’s growth and development. Parents interact with each other and explore ways to support their children’s language and literacy development.
